Breaking Through Limiting Beliefs: My Artist Interview in New Visionary: Contemporary Art

If you had asked me a few years ago if I could imagine seeing my artwork published in a magazine, I honestly don’t think I would have considered it a possibility. I never really thought about it. It wasn’t something I chased—it wasn’t even on my radar. It was almost like something that yes would be amazing but I never even consider as an option for me. Crazy right?!

But somehow, it’s happening. And it feels absolutely surreal. 💫

I just received my copy of Visionary Manifestation Issue 14 (Spring 2025), and I’m so thrilled to share that I was juried into this issue! My botanical paintings are featured alongside an incredible group of multifaceted artists whose work inspires me deeply. To know that Marina Granger from The Artist Advisory was the guest juror makes this opportunity feel even more meaningful.

One of the paintings featured has already found its forever home (which still blows my mind), but there’s still one available if you’ve been thinking about adding something new to your space. ✨

Growth I Never Saw Coming - What’s really hitting me lately is how this entire experience is unfolding in ways I never expected. Over the past several months, I’ve started to see my work show up in spaces I never imagined—printed in magazines, juried into shows, and reaching new audiences.

This year also marked another huge first for me: I applied for my very first artist grant… and I received it. Honestly? I don’t know why I never even considered applying before. Somewhere along the way, I had built this quiet belief that those things weren’t meant for someone like me—that grants, publications, big opportunities were for other artists. Artists with fancy degrees, longer careers, bigger names. But that belief? That was me limiting myself.

I’m so grateful I’ve pushed through that. Because now, doors are opening—doors I never even thought to knock on before. And it’s not just about art. This is something I try to share with everyone, no matter what your dream is.

Whether you’re an artist, a writer, an engineer, a teacher—there are real possibilities waiting for you. Thousands of people are making their dreams happen. Why not you? Why not now?
What if, instead of shrinking your dreams, you let yourself think big? What if you just went after them—fully—and had fun along the way? What if you let the journey surprise you? What if instead of saying “Now back to reality” on your dreams that you instead say “this is my reality”?

Overcoming those limiting beliefs didn’t happen overnight. It happened when I chose to reinvest my energy into my dreams instead of my doubts. I started reaching out to other artists, connecting with mentors, and intentionally searching for advisors who truly aligned with the kind of artist I wanted to become—even though I didn’t fully know what that meant yet. I just knew I wanted to find people who felt aligned with my goals and aspirations, and I kept going until I did. I stayed open—to learning, to growing, to trying new things—even when it felt uncomfortable. And honestly, I believe this is always a work in progress. There’s always something new to explore, something else to try, and new ways to expand. One of the most important things I’ve learned is to grow your network, find your people, and stay open to opportunities—even the ones you didn’t originally plan for.

Also, if you keep doing something and it’s not panning out the way you hoped, maybe that’s not the right avenue. I’ve found that to be true for me, and I haven’t let it stop me. Instead, I’ve continued to pivot and search for the paths that are right for me. Sometimes the key isn’t to push harder—it’s to look for the space where your energy can actually thrive.

I know I can’t wait to keep surprising myself. I hope I continue to grow, to explore new places with my art, and to share the ride with you.
